Heritage Volunteers Berkeley Castle

Monica Evans, the society’s heritage volunteers organiser, led several members in an exciting project at Berkeley Castle during the 2010-11 winter. While the castle was closed to the public they photographed many objects in the castle’s collection. The purpose was to create a digital ‘Icollection’ partly for security reasons. The volunteers coped with very cold conditions (remember that winter!). NADFAS House were also interested as this was an original form of heritage volunteering. The other members were Margaret Macnair, Anne Mogie, Julian Berrisford, Joan Bloore, Ray Davies, George Duff and Chris Manning. The photograph shows several members with the castle general manager Vicki Parr. A similar project is planned for Tewkesbury Abbey

We are 20 years old !!

70 members had a very successful tea party on July 21st to celebrate West Gloucestershire DFAS’s 20th birthday. 10 founder members were able to attend (that’s four of them cutting the cake!) We were very lucky with the weather as it started to spot with rain as everyone was leaving. Mary and Jeremy Barnes kindly hosted the event at Ashleworth Manor, and the West Mercia area chairman Sally Kitchen and her husband were guests. 2011 AGM

The 2011 AGM of WGDFAS in the Minsterworth village hall was managed very efficiently, lasting 15 minutes. The new committee details will be on the contact page shortly. The photographs show the presentation to Margaret Macnair of £150 worth of vouchers and a rose named ‘Thank You’, in appreciation of all her work as Chairman. Margaret had continued for an extra year longer than the usual three years and stood down at the AGM, but has volunteered to continue on the committee.
